Chap Wax and Dri-Boot: All-natural Beeswax Waterproofing
CHAP WAX® and DRI-BOOT®
Chap Wax and Dri-Boot are a favorite weatherproofing for working cowboys, bikers, loggers, linemen, fire fighters, hunters, hikers and anyone who uses their leather products in foul weather and hard service. Chap Wax and Dri-Boot deliver dependable waterproof protection for boots and chaps. Unlike most grease-based products, our product lasts longer and can be reapplied whenever needed without leaving leather spongy or stretched out of shape.
Chap Wax and Dri-Boot are the same product under two different labels. Many retailers will carry both. Cowboy customers will pick up a jar of Chap Wax in the tack section of their favorite saddle shop or supply store. Hikers, bikers, hunters, and firefighters choose Dri-Boot in the footwear department.

Chap Wax and Dri-Boot blend premium waxes, including hard Brazilian carnauba wax; a premium natural wax known for its resistance to water and wear. Combined with other rich ingredients, these waxes create long-lasting waterproofing protection for leather goods exposed to harsh weather.
Along with protection, Chap Wax and Dri-Boot allow leather to breathe, helping it last longer while providing greater comfort. This product is ideal when you rely on your leather footwear and gear for protection in adverse conditions.
All Ray Holes Leather Care Products are still handmade by the Holes family. Our leather waterproofing products Chap Wax and Dri-Boot are still made with the original 1938 recipe of "The Saddle Maker's Saddle Maker," Ray Holes.
Available in 6oz jars and 3oz tins.
Using Chap Wax and Dri-Boot to Waterproof Your Leather
STEP 1: Clean your leather item before applying Chap Wax or Dri-Boot. We recommend using warm water with a small amount pure glycerin soap, then rinse well and let dry. This is also a good time to reapply Saddle Butter to re-condition your leather.
STEP 2: Apply room temperature or slightly warmed product to clean, dry leather. Use one or more coats, depending on weather conditions and use level. Additional wax should be applied to stitching areas as stitching is a prime place for moisture to penetrate.
STEP 3: Buff to a desired shine using a clean cloth or woolskin.
TIPS: Chap Wax and Dri-Boot are most effectively applied in a warm room. Heat, such as the warmth of your hands, sunshine, or warm air from a blow dryer will help the product penetrate deep into the leather. Use caution; leather is easily damaged by excess heat. Chap Wax and Dri-Boot can be applied to leather after conditioning with Saddle Butter for additional waterproofing treatment. Leather is skin; think of Saddle Butter as lotion and Chap Wax/Dri-Boot as sunscreen.
What People Say about Chap Wax and Dri-Boot
"If you talk to a leather working master, they will tell you the same thing, most leather treatments do more harm than good. Taking care of the leather in the first place is all that is needed. However, if you want to add some extra waterproofing & give your leather a little shine up, then a wax variant is what you need. This Ray Holes Dri-Boot is exactly that, a blend of fine caranauba-wax & neatsfoot-oil, still made in small-batches using the most locally sourced ingredients available. Absolutely nothing bad that will break down leather fibers!
I did extensive research between products before purchasing & even spoke with a master holster maker on my one hobby forum before settling on this. I wanted something to protect & shine up my molded holster, something that wouldn't make it lose its molding. Dri-Boot did a fantastic job. I then used it on every single other holster I have, then my leather boots, then my leather aviator jacket, then my wallet...you get the point.
It gives everything that extra protection against water & other stuff along with giving it a nice "shine up" look to it. With a jar of this size, I likely won't have to buy another, but if I do I won't hesitate. It works much better when you can get it to slightly melt from contact with your body. It's much easier to apply & soak in that way.
If you're on the fence like I was, the best way to go is to keep it simple, & this is a simple product that can't be beat."
